This has a nice clean scent and lasts a long time! It is very economical and works well.
USE: 1-2 TBSP per load of laundry.
Ingredients:
1 - 4# box Borax (76 oz)
1 - 4# box Baking Soda (2 c)
1 - 4# box Washing Soda (55 oz.)
3 bars Fels-Naptha Soap -OR- 2 bars Zote Soap (MY NOTE--I've tried both and found I like the Fels Naptha soap better--seems to clean better)
2 sm containers Oxy Clean (abt 3.5 lbs)
1-2 (55 oz) total bottles Purex Crystals or Unstoppables (opt--this just add scent and the original scent is very clean and lovely. This also adds to the cost of the whole recipe)
Instructions:
Grate Soap in food processor (add some baking soda or washing soda makes it easier to grate--especially with the Fels-Naptha Soap which is a bit sticky unless you let it sit out for a few weeks to harden and dry out first)
Start adding other ingredients a little at a time to fully incorporate.
Can do half batches at a time and put in garbage bag to mix.
Store in airtight containers such as canning jars or coffee cans.
MY NOTE: I have used several batches of this. It can be taken down to the basics by using just the borax, baking soda, washing soda and Fels-Naptha soap. It cleans well but does need to use something to whiten whites after a while as I found they do become dingy even if using the oxy clean in the mix, so oxy clean can be left out and just used as needed per batch.
I have used in top loaders and my front HE loaders. Works well in either. I like it! :)
